Environmental Policy

Acting with the vision of superior digital services for a better future, KKTCELL provides a safe workplace and acts with the awareness of its environmental responsibilities in its activities thanks to its Environmental Policy. It implements projects and practices encouraging its ecosystem to act in the same way as well.

1. PURPOSE

Considering the environment as much as possible in its activities, minimizing the damage to the environment, training its employees on environmental sensitivity, using clean technologies, and adopting an approach that prioritizes new projects for the protection of the ecological environment, KKTCELL has put this policy into practice with the aim of contributing to the economy and meeting the requirement of long-term environmental sustainability by developing circular economy consciousness with environmental impact awareness throughout its value chain.

2. PRINCIPLES

While developing its products and services for a better future with its superior digital services, KKTCELL takes care to protect the habitat in which its footprint is located and to use and conserve resources efficiently. KKTCELL carries out its operations affecting the environment by considering the following principles as much as possible:

  • Operation in accordance with human life and health
  • Efficient use of resources
  • Waste disposal, reduction and recycling
  • Promoting the production, consumption and use of renewable energy

KKTCELL encourages the adoption and implementation of these principles by its suppliers and business partners as well.

3. IMPLEMENTATION

In order to implement the above-mentioned principles and the responsible understanding set forth in the Policy in general, and in particular to comply with environmental legislation, KKTCELL pursue to:

  • Develop strategies and set targets in order to identify and minimize environmental damage and risks, monitor, measure (CDP, ISO 14064) and evaluate the same and take these data into consideration when making decisions,
  • Use resources in the most efficient way in its operations and encourage cyclicity by applying the principle of reuse and recycling,
  • Contribute to the process of formulating public policies for or in connection with the protection of the environment and conduct researches and studies,
  • Develop, use and ensure the use of efficient, compatible, environmentally respectful, environmentally friendly technology, products and services, taking into account the impact of products and services on the environment,
  • Take initiatives supporting new sustainable lifestyles as part of standards for limiting greenhouse gas emissions,
  • Promote the adoption of appropriate means to ensure compliance with legal limits in the design, installation and operation of network infrastructures generating electromagnetic emissions and in the purchase and sale of equipment and devices capable of transmitting and receiving data and voice over wireless links, to follow the relevant standards in scientific research on the effects of electromagnetic fields on biological systems and the human body by continuous monitoring of evolving standardization bodies, and to provide the information necessary to implement all actions set out in the environmental policy,
  • Consider environmental sustainability criteria as part of the evaluation of potential mergers and acquisitions,
  • Conduct studies for promoting a culture based on the right approach to environmental issues, work with the leverage effect provided by digitalization in office practices and business processes in order to reduce the carbon footprint and develop awareness projects to reduce the carbon footprint of its employees, customers and other stakeholders.

4. ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Environmental Policy is a text prepared for management, employees, business partners and contractors OF KKTCELL to display responsiveness to human and environmentally sensitive business conduct. In this context, KKTCELL develops practices and projects for its business partners, contractors and subcontractors to work in compliance with the Policy and to cooperate with them in this regard. It carries out activities to encourage other stakeholders to act in accordance with this policy. The Company strives to adopt and realize the principles and objectives of this Policy.

5. VIOLATIONS OF THE POLICY

In case of any violation of the Policy, this matter shall be reported to KKTCELL Administrative Affairs Unit and Sustainability Team and/or Sustainability Committee. In case of a violation of this Policy, if the violator is an employee, the matter may be referred to the Sustainability Committee to evaluate the necessary processes to be taken against the relevant employee. If the Policy is violated by business partners and contractors, existing business processes are reviewed.

Human Rights Policy

As KKTCELL, we aim to bring our country and our people together with the latest technologies, to contribute to the digital transformation of our country, and to create value for every moment of our customers with our innovative and value-added services and solutions.

We prioritize creating a working environment and ecosystem that contributes to economic, social and environmental sustainability by giving particular importance to human focus and ethical values in every technology we develop, every service we offer and every step we take. On this basis, we are committed to abide by the following principles and to fulfill our duties in order to ensure wholehearted commitment to these principles in our ecosystem for the purpose of demonstrating an attitude of adherence to the fundamental rights and freedoms guaranteed by

  • Constitution of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus,
  • Universal Declaration of Human Rights,
  • International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights,
  • International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights,
  • UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the Convention on the Rights of the Child,
  • ILO Conventions to which Turkey is a party,
  • United Nations Principles on Business and Human Rights,
  • United Nations Global Principles,
  • OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises,

and ensuring compliance with national legislation on labor life and international capital markets regulations, to which we are subject, in our relations with our employees, customers, business partners and all our stakeholders.

1. OUR PRINCIPLES

1. Child labor, which is defined as mentally, physically, socially or morally dangerous and harmful work for children, is not permitted either in own business processes of KKTCELL or in its supply chain. KKTCELL takes all possible measures to comply with the international regulations and national legislation that have been incorporated into our domestic law and/or to which our Company is subject to regarding the prohibition of child labor.

2. Only the individuals who want to work with us of their own free will are employed at KKTCELL. Any form of modern slavery such as human trafficking, forced labor, compulsory labor is unacceptable within KKTCELL and its ecosystem.

3. KKTCELL is aware that its success is based on its employees. Accordingly, in order to create a working environment worthy of human dignity and value;

  • The employees are not discriminated on the basis of gender, religion, language, race, ethnic origin, physical appearance, disability status in decisions taken on recruitment, promotion, development, etc.
  • All kinds of discrimination and harassment that may occur towards or between employees are opposed and no concessions are made on these issues by no means.
  • “Right to Assembly and Demonstration”, “Right to Exercise Fundamental Rights and Freedoms” and “Right to Establish Unions” of our employees, which are also expressed in the TRNC Constitution, are respected.
  • Modern working environments are provided, especially ensuring occupational health and safety.
  • Legal working hours are observed and work-private life balance is protected and promoted.
  • Measures are taken against all forms of violence in the workplace or at home, as well as adequate and clear regulations are included in our policies and procedures that form the basis of our corporate governance.
  • Initiatives are taken to increase work efficiency, digitalize business processes, facilitate workplace life and access to business tools, find quick solutions to technical and administrative problems, provide non-wage fringe benefits to employees, measure performance objectively; in short, to ensure employee happiness and welfare.

Our suppliers and business partners are encouraged to adopt and implement these principles that we have adopted regarding our employees as well.

4. Pursuant to the capital markets legislation by which the TURKCELL group is bound, KKTCELL refrains from the supply of products containing cassiterite (tin), columbite tantalite (tantalum), wolframite (tungsten) or gold and its derivatives, which are mined in certain countries and are called “conflict minerals” in its procurement processes. It regularly conducts reasonable country of origin research in order to ensure this commitment. Without limitation, KKTCELL takes care to conduct background checks on transactions that are considered risky or suspicious in order to prevent supply /procurement processes involving human rights violations.

5. KKTCELL fulfills its obligations to ensure that its employees and customers can exercise their rights of privacy and freedom of expression in accordance with the law as well as designs and implements processes for the protection of personal data within the scope of the above-mentioned national and international legislation and principles.

6. KKTCELL considers the future as a trust of children and in this sense, makes its best efforts to protect children's rights, to guarantee children's online safety, and ensure that the products and services it offers are in the best interest of children.

7. KKTCELL pays due attention to the ethical and responsible development and use of the technologies it uses and will develop in its business processes. In the technologies it develops, especially in artificial intelligence technology, it aims to act by contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and creating a more livable world based on human dignity, fundamental rights and freedoms.

2. GOVERNANCE OF POLICY

In order to ensure that this Policy is carried out effectively and in accordance with its purpose, KKTCELL;

1. Endeavors to ensure that the principles set forth in the Policy are adopted in its business processes and by its managers and employees;

2. Develops practices and procedures for the implementation of the Policy, training and awareness raising activities related thereto and determination of governance processes in detail, monitors compliance with the Policy and the procedures issued based on it within the relevant Boards and Committees in accordance with the Policy and Procedures, especially the Sustainability Committee;

3. Evaluates the applications to be made regarding non-compliance with the principles in this Policy with elaborately;

4. In case of possible violations, refers the matter to the relevant internal units according to the subject of the violation, establishes the necessary procedures within the framework of internal procedures and rules, and implements its determined processes. 

5. In the event that employees commit a violation, the processes specified in the KKTCELL Code of Common Values and Business Ethics are carried out and the violation notification is placed on the agenda of the Ethics Committee. Violations committed by employees may result in disciplinary action or other sanctions upon the decision of the Ethics Committee.
